My father would refer to this as "interesting."
What we have here is "failure" to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. What do you think the Stock Market will think if we get a Dim in the Whitehouse at the end-of-'08? You are going to see MASSIVE selling on the afternoon of November 2, 2008 if the Dims are looking like they are going to take back the White House and the third branch of the U.S. government that has eluded them since GWB assumed control early in '00.
The media will spin this as the result of the Republicans controling the government for SO long and the END of Newt's Revolution which he started in '94 and that a change-of-control doomed the economy once the Dims came back. Well, THAT is not the issue. If THIS were the case, the market would have shot through-the-roof in '02 at the election of Billy Bob Clinton. The market skyrocketed AFTER Newt's efforts bore fruit in '94, not prior, yet the Dims still give credit to Billy Bob - not Newt!
The Street will be selling, should the election work this way, because you will have a single party in control of both the legislative and executive branches of the government, and the Street does NOT approve of such a situation. We can go back to Carter in the late '70s, Clinton in the early '90s, or Bush in the mid '00s. Granted, it took six years of GWB's presidency for the people to throw his republican party out of the legislature, but the Dims will dismiss that as an effect of 9/11.
No one knew there were Republicans while Carter was in office. So they were not a threat back then. The people gave Carter the boot once they realized that an election involves a CHOICE, and the election of Reagan saw the birth of the contemporary Republican party.
The reason why the Dims are kicking and screaming about the War Funding bill is that what have they got to show for the effort should GWB decide to start pulling troops out of Iraq BEFORE the '08 elections ramp up? The way it's sitting now, should this happen, the Dims will be able to say,
"Wait a minute! We tried to pull troops out of Iraq in '07, but you said, 'no,' Mr. President."
All this kicking and screaming by the Left is nothing more than a little CYA from the crybabies on the Left. They want to make sure that they look like they were TRYING to "end" the war before Bush tried to "end" the war.
Crud, this made more sense in my brain earlier this morning, but one of the issues doesn't seem to be making it into this explanation.
So, those of you out there who want to see the economy keep chugging along, keep a Republican behind-the-desk in the Oval Office. This act will keep Wall Street happy and the terrorists awake at night.
